In our commune (Gentofte in Denmark) all streets signs have a red heart. These were designed by the architect Knud V. Engelhardt in 1923. The little red heart was his ‘signature’ – the hearts only appear above the letter ‘j’ in the word ‘vej‘ (street). Still used today !

I was going to ask you if the heart was part of the actual sign, then read your explanation. I think it's brilliant, a little human touch. I love it. And the fact that it's still in use today, more than 100 years later, tells me the people in Gentofte love it too!

Today the flue gas exhaust system needed to be replaced, due to stricter regulations. I and my downstairs neighbours on the 2d, 1st and ground floor shared the exhaust pipe for it. Now we have our own. Or something like that. They also installed a new boiler. The work was scheduled to last two days. They did it in 6 hours! Phew. Here's the new set-up (the slanted thing left of the boiler is an old curtain rail that I stowed away there because I didn't know where else to put it and that I totally forgot to remove. And now it is locked in. The only way I can now remove it is to first saw it in two...)

Looks a bit complicated....
It could be tidier if all pipes were in straight lines and 90 degrees angles.
