I'm still thinking of buying the R5 mark II. Should I or should I wait? I BOUGHT IT!!!

@Jan1977 and @Levina de Ruijter I use the custom modes as Manual with Auto ISO, the only thing is if I change the TV or AV while in a custom mode and the camera goes to sleep it loses the change, at least it does on the R6/R7 will test the R5ii more on that.
With no rolling shutter I am shooting 100% in electronic so far.

I have C1 as 1/5000 f/8 auto ISO and C2 as 1/5000 F/8 and Pre-shooting, simply flip back as forth, not quite at quick as a dial, but I also see leaving it in C2 and not holding down the shutter button 1/2 way as it as if preshooting isn't enabled at all EXCEPT the slower you press the shutter button you actually get up to 1/2 second preshooting without even meaning to. Since I have AF and meter and shutter on the SB I am getting the preshots, almost no reason not to shoot with it on all the time except you would get more frames to go through, although with birds that is a good thing.

After setting up the R5ii I went out to the garden and sat in the same place as yesterday, of course yesterday was sunny today is our normal overcast. I shot 1,500 shots in 90 minutes but didn't switch between cameras as it too damn cold and windy, 45 F. and 10-15 mph winds made it cold. I have the camera for a week and it is supposed to be nice the next couple days.

So far I would have no problem changing from the R6ii to the R5ii but I want to try more of the High ISO shots, the highest so far today was ISO 12,800

I am going to start a thread giving my thoughts of the R5ii and how it compares to the R7 for birds and cropping.

oh one final thought,

I will talk to my salesman to see how long the $300 off lasts and will the "rebate" from Canon, the $300, last for another month until Mothers Day at the same time I am falling in love with the R5ii and would want it right away rather than wait for the additional $200-$300

They will give me 60% of used retail on a trade in for the R6ii, I am seeing them in Exc shape going for about $1800, so it may be $1,000, I would think on the other forum or in Facebook Market place I could certainly try for $1,200 or $1,400 but you have to take the time to do it and around here I hear of people being robbed by "buyers" on FB. I certainly wouldn't need the R6ii UNLESS the IQ in High ISO is poor on the R5ii, will be testing that also

Jeff, there is setting when registering custom modes to 'enable' the "auto update". So if you registered 1/5000 and you change it to 1/3200 in lower light, when the camera goes to sleep and you wake it, it will still be in 1/3200. Only thing is, it also maintains that after shutdown. So let's say you are done for the day and you pick up the camera 2 days later, it still is on 1/3200.
Also you have to be aware that if you change other settings they are also updated in the respective C-mode. So for example if you temporary set a different AF-zone, the next time you will still be in that zone. If the only things you normally change are Tv and Av, then that is not much of a problem. You just set them for the situation you are in.

The setting is available on other camera's as well. The R7 for sure, but I expect it was also already there on R6.

You mean when a custom mode is changed on the fly, it sticks? Yes, you could set it that way on the R6 too.

The way I get around it is to set the power off from 30 seconds to either 10 or 30 minutes, I have two of the new batteries I rented with the R5ii. This morning I Have it set to 30 minutes as I am heading to the pond early and there won't be many birds. Also the older batteries work also but not for video or pre-shooting and I have plenty of those

it is also 32F 0C and a 5 mph wind blowing right towards me but what can you do, besides freeze.
