Lovely birds. Wish they bred in Britain. (They occasionally hold territory, but mostly they are just passage migrants.)

I think they are more common in the Netherlands, but I have only seen 1 thusfar. But they sure look very nice.

A bluethroat from earlier this year, also I nice example how background can give a different feel to an image:

They're really pretty birds. The background in the first is truly lovely.

And a kestrel from a recent outing:

I love shooting them. Although when I see them there is always something: they're flying away, I have to shoot into the sun, you name it. These are good, Jan!

I only shot a juvenile once. He gave me two shots, both bad.

Here's the juvenile bluethroat I shot a few years ago. This is the best of the two shots I took. I only processed it so I could ask the folks over at POTN for an ID.

Thanks, I have had loads of kestrel shots from unfavorable angles, but every now and then, you get a great angle on them ;-)

Well, that's the difference between birders and photographers... A birder would be happy to see one and have a shot to document the sighting... , while as a photographer we have different standards

Crow. Taken a long time ago during one of the last real winters. It was a white world and it was very cold. Taken with my first DSLR the Canon 40D and the brilliant Canon EF 300/4L.
