I don't think so, but the line is used occasionally by the phosphate quarries to transport the minerals.

Yeah? With the tracks buried in sand? Maybe they send ahead a few men with brooms first, to clear the tracks...

Amtrak (official name The National Railroad Passenger Corporation) was looking to replace its aging fleet of General Electric P42s (locomotive #34) with the new Siemens Charger SC 44.

they had the Charger in a consist they were running back and forth on the lines (for some reason) without power if i remember. they dont seem to have much luck with them in the northern climes because the HUGE vent/grill in the middle of the body, sucks in an enormous amount of cold air, rain, and snow which then causes issues with the prime mover (the diesel engine) inside.

ive never been in one so i dont know if theyre an improvement over the GEs or not. dont know why they brought this to my town, where the tracks dead end and the train cant be turned (around so the lead locomotive is still leading vs trailing)...

That's just stupid.

Sounds like a job done by pencil pushers who didn't have a clue about trains and the conditions in which they have to operate.

Mississippi Delta Railroad GP9 (#6226) with Columbus and Greenfield Railway FC-7 (#803)

the FC-7 was a former Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe (ATSF or Santa Fe) F-unit that was converted to freight use with cut away body shell allowing much better visibility like the GP series. all made by Electro Motive Division (EMD) of General Motors

an F unit for comparison. they were also known as 'covered wagons' or Car Body locomotives

two different trains.

8811 is Canadian National, EMD SD70M-2, trailing 5411 is an EMD SD50F

4900 is Grand Trunk Western (originally), EMD GP38-2. it was built for GTW, then reacquired by parent company CN when GTW ceased to exist except on paper ()

EMD is Electro-Motive Division of General Motors. since the GTW (and CN) hauled a LOT of freight for the auto industry (CN still does) it made sense to buy from General Motors
