Yeah? With the tracks buried in sand? Maybe they send ahead a few men with brooms first, to clear the tracks...I don't think so, but the line is used occasionally by the phosphate quarries to transport the minerals.
That's just stupid.Amtrak (official name The National Railroad Passenger Corporation) was looking to replace its aging fleet of General Electric P42s (locomotive #34) with the new Siemens Charger SC 44.
they had the Charger in a consist they were running back and forth on the lines (for some reason) without power if i remember. they dont seem to have much luck with them in the northern climes because the HUGE vent/grill in the middle of the body, sucks in an enormous amount of cold air, rain, and snow which then causes issues with the prime mover (the diesel engine) inside.
Sounds like a job done by pencil pushers who didn't have a clue about trains and the conditions in which they have to operate.ive never been in one so i dont know if theyre an improvement over the GEs or not. dont know why they brought this to my town, where the tracks dead end and the train cant be turned (around so the lead locomotive is still leading vs trailing)...
