Renting R5 mark II - my thoughts and results vs. R7 and R6ii

This morning I shot about 3,000 images many with pre-shooting. here are some of a Red Wing Blackbird, It was really cold 0C 32F check out the breath from the bird in the first shot! The others were taken as it took off. The 5Dii is great on capturing in flight images!
Hmmm...

I LOVE that first shot. To have caught the bird's breath in the cold air is really cool.

And yes, the R5II is great capturing birds in flight!!
How did you end setting up the pre-capture mode? I now have it in C1. And the DOF Preview button is set to change shooting mode. Now I only shoot in Manual mode so I have disabled all the modes I don't use, leaving just M and C1 and I can switch to pre-capture shooting and back on the fly. Works great.

Doing a lot of shooting in the early morning light, so far I am really impressed with the ability to clean up high ISO's from the R5ii, I have been using Dx0 Pure Raw 5.
I didn't know DXO PR had a new version out. I have #4. Hopefully there is a discount for existing customers!

For existing users I think it is $79 US.

I have pre-shooting on C2, mostly shoot in C1 but I hit the mode button and then roll to C2. I will think about a button to change modes once I get my new camera, or may play with setting one up this weekend.

Yup I have found the AF better even against a cluttered background, the burst with Craw gives 10 seconds and clears quick, ISO can be cleaned up.

I am going to set C3 to full RAW and M jpg and first a burst and see how much I get and how long to clear it

I rented 2 batteries but only put in one at a time and while it got down to 2 bars it never ran out but each time I go out I put in a new battery and put the other on the charger. Even with the trip to the pond where I shot 3000 shots Craw plus jpg (so 6000 separate files) the battery didn't run out. Has the 256 gig card and have never filled it but I empty each time I come back. came close to filling it with the big shoot and it took about 45 minutes to download.

One thing I noticed is that the Red Button on the top of the R5ii can be set for MODE which I prefer to the regular mode button it is easier for my to use with my finger, more natural. I set it as a customized button for that. Normally the red button will start movie recording regardless of where the movie switch on the left side "photo/movie" is set to so you can start a movie with 1 click even when shooting stills. But I don't do that many videos almost all stills so I set it to mode but when you switch to movie it still operates as the start/stop switch for movies.
But I may switch it back because it is nice to be able to do a quick video and I am learn to hit the mode button in the on off switch

How about setting MODE on the DOF Preview button? Works for me.

I have trouble finding it or feeling with my finger, since my stroke I have less feeling on my right side, in fact I cannot feel warmth or hot on my entire right side, but my pain sensitivity for heat is greater. So it is hard to tell if I hit it or not. Right after my stroke I couldn't tell or pick out a dice in a handful of rice, there was no feeling at all.

A QUICK QUESTION: I set the AF-ON button to be Spot AF, but when I push it after it focuses the focus jumps to what ever it sees or like better. So if there is a bird inside a bush it will often jump to the nearest branch. I do have the * button to AF-OFF so I can focus and before it shifts either by holding it down longer or hitting the shutter button I can push and old the "*" so it holds focus, I don't do BBF again due to the stroke it is hard to do I find I like shutter button focus better. BUT is there a way that the spot focus can be set to stay or is it because I also have "whole area" focus set so I will be able to grab a bird anywhere?
