I'm still thinking of buying the R5 mark II. Should I or should I wait? I BOUGHT IT!!!

I hadn't tried the camera with the 1.4x extender yet. Camera did great!
A gull chasing another gull with food ("mine, mine, mine"). Shot @700mm and cropped to 5400mpx on the long end. They suddenly appeared and focus unfortunately was on the chasing gull, but it does show that the 1.4x TC is doing very well.

Very nice action shot, the focus may have been on the chasing gull but the front one looks fine to me.

Sorry for the long post below but I am thinking things out through typing...

Yes I am waiting to rent the R5ii before deciding anything however that doesn't stop me from thinking about it all the time, I over analyze. For example I am slowly coming around to selling both the R6ii AND the R7 and having the R5ii as the main camera, along with my RF 200-800 and to mimic the R7 use the RF 1.4x although that would be a slow lens it would be "almost" the same as the R7 with the 200-800. I am finding I am using the R7 less and less as I use the R6ii more and more.

I still have the 7Dii as a backup camera so don't need the R7 as a backup. I don't know what I would get for the two cameras, my guess is at best if I trade them or sell to KEH I would be lucky to get 50% of current retail. I don't trust Ebay or Facebook market place unless it is in person pickup but even doing that at the local Police station you are still taking a risk, you will get more but I have had people even though the sale is "final" come back for a refund. I also don't like dealing with people in that situation and it can be dangerous especially where you will not be charged with theft for things less than $1000. Selling to KEH or B&H is safer although less money. I usually give my cameras to my middle son who is into photography but in the past it has been through my 80D and he is happy with what he has (I am never fully happy, always want the next best thing) If I sell both cameras to say KEH, I anticipate I would get about $1,200 to $1,400 I would hope, but I wouldn't have them sitting around. I could also sell the 90D keeping the 7Dii as the backup, it is still a good camera especially as a backup. I find I rarely carry 2 cameras, just too much gear, at the same time I have done that especially if I may want the 200-800 on one and a 24-105 on the other and I am in a situation where I may have to switch quick. If I were to keep one of them it would be the R6ii. The 90D could go to my son and let him sell his other cameras.

I noticed at Adorama and B&H there are R5ii's for $4,100 say in used mint condition, several of them. I wonder why they are on the market as they just came out? Even seen a couple for 3800 to 4000 used. However I would want new.
I have sold cameras in the past, my 5DIV, 6DII, but I prefer to give them away, but maybe sell on here or the old forum.

I can't wait to give the R5ii a really good workout soon.

Less money indeed. I'm terrible at selling things myself so I usually trade in. But with the R6 they offered so little that I decided to try my luck on what can be considered the Dutch version of Craigslist. Camera was gone the same day, picked up by a young woman and her friend. And for at 200 euro more than the highest bid from one of the stores. One of the stores offered as little as 1100 euro! That was the store I bought that camera and the store I was going to buy the R6II. I thought it was shameful and I never bought from them again. Another shop offered 1500 and the highest was 1600 from yet another shop, which was decent. But selling it myself I got 1800 for it.

Yeah, it does make you wonder, doesn't it? I don't know, I used to buy my 1D cameras used, from shops. And because there was a full year's warranty it felt safe enough to do it. I wouldn't buy used any other way. Don't Adorama and B&H give warranty on their used cameras? Could save a bit of money. Although I do understand wanting to buy new. For some reason I have that with lenses. I wouldn't buy a used lens. Not sure why not, but I always wonder why people want to get rid of it.

Thinking about this, I bought my camera in the UK from a firm that's based in the Hong Kong I think it is. I paid more than 1000 euro less for the camera than the going rate here. I could sell my R5m2 for 500 euro less and still make a profit of 500 euro. Could actually be a nice little cottage industry! :lolz:

Wood Pigeon in very low light @6400 ISO
Ran it through DXO Pure Raw, added some light, cropped it. He was in a really dark place.

Magpie, even worse @10000 ISO. Same treatment: DXO Pure Raw, added a bit of light, cropped to 2600px.

I also shot a gull in flight near sunset. Bird is backlit, shot @6400 ISO and it looks really good. I posted one of the shots here in the Birds in Flight thread.

Very nice shots showing what the R5ii can do. Can't wait for it to get warm and renting one.

I gave my 90D to my son, so cleared one camera. Still have the 7Dii to use the EF lenses with.

I use the European site ;) (or whatever site has it first)
