Wild Birds of Europe

The colours look fine to me. If there's a problem (and I don't actually think there is) it's more with the shadows and highlights—which was probably unavoidable in the situation you were in.
This was close to nightfall, so I had a low sun and much contrast, always difficult. Actually looking at the bird, I may have cooled it too much.

Some lesser black-backed gulls, taken a few minutes earlier. No WB problem but they were half in bright sunlight, half in the deep dark, just above the water of the canal. I still like the shots though, even though it's a balcony view. I always enjoy shooting gulls from my window. My downstairs neighbour had thrown out some slices of bread, so naturally the resident gulls al came to collect.

A Gadwall flying by. Actually there were two but too far apart. This was at sunset and colours were way too warm and off. And I said elsewhere I'm bad correcting colours. It still doesn't look good. But it's the best I could do. It's the building behind the bird mostly. It's orange-y. But a kind of dirty orange-y. Ugh... I like the bird though.

Sometimes the light is just strange so even you think it's not right it's what it was at the time. Not much wrong here.
I've changed my WB to a fixed 5400K and rarely change this in post.

That’s a good idea. I had WB set that way on my 1D4! I’m going to switch the R5m2 to it.

Two great sets of images, Jan. Especially the Avocet shots are nice. You seem to have been fairly close to them, at least the photos don't look like huge crops. Of course 1120mm does help... :D
