Awesome pics, Jan. This bird is so hard for me to get right. I don't know what it is, but I don't think I have one decent in flight shot of it.
You are on the right way by saying it out loud here, like you did with warblers in the past... and soon after the curse is broken and you get your shots ;)

No, the warblers, that was different. That was just that one spring. I had shot warblers often enough prior to that. But Redshanks are always too far away or they leave when they see me coming and I miss focus. There's always something. Although I have some good shots of them on the ground, but it's mostly missed opportunities or the bird is too far away.

There was a group of them, It was one of those days where they were swooping low to the ground so good detailed photos, when I got them back on the computer I realised how low with one bird as part of it's wing filled the frame.
