• Welcome to Focus on Photography

Hello. I created this forum so photographers would have a friendly place to share their love of photography and their images.
I set up categories and forums, started some threads and posted some images, resources and interesting articles.
You are most welcome to join me by registering but you can also post as a guest.
Either way, I hope to see you on the board!

Wild Birds of Europe

Very nice. I find it impossible to get near to these.
I wasn't real near to these either. It are crops from the R7 at 500mm (so equivalent FoV of 800mm considering the cropfactor). Furthermore these are taken in a lowland nature area where people come and go regularly, so they are probably a bit used to people as well.

I traded the R7 to contribute to a 400mm f2.8 , as I had to find some money and there was a 'great' deal on a 400mm so I wanted to act quickly.

I do occasionally post on waarneming.nl . It is mostly to identify the species I photographed. But since the site is about observations I also post sometimes when I'm certain about the species already. It is sort of a moral obligation to contribute to that site as I make use of it myself (I also donated to the site to support it for that same reason).

I posted some of my sightings too. Added a few pics. But not in a long while now.
If you use Obsidentify and save after identification it's also saved in waarneming.nl. I'm using it more now I've started a course to see 1000 species in a year, it makes the lists for you.

Wait, what?! Oh, you can't just leave it at that. What course? Where? How does one see 1000 species a year? Well, that's what the course is for of course! :fcpalm:

It reminds me of that film with Jack Black: The Big Year. Have you seen it? Also with Steve Martin and Owen Wilson. Voice over by John Cleese. It's not a great movie, but definitely a fun one.

I saw the option last time I was there but thought "nah". I'll go look again as that is a handy feature. I would like that.

I've seen that movie, did like it but indeed not the best.

Gulls from 2008

Excellent shot. Where you lying down?

Thank you! No, I was walking along the top of a breakwater which had a raised wall on the seaward side and the bird was on that.
For some reason this made me think of a shot of a pigeon I took many years ago, in 2011, in the harbour. He was strutting along at my eye level. I'm still fond of the shot. Even though I hate the square crop.

Very nicely done. I find crows very difficult.
They are difficult indeed and I struggle with correct exposures on crows a lot. In this case the light conditions just turned out favorable to get a proper exposure on it. I was at a harbor pier at the coast where this crow was flying around as well.

Big black blobs aren’t they. And they’re pretty fast flyers too.
