Wild Animals

Wow, that's some story and great pics to go with it, Rosalie. The term Baboon Bandits is well chosen. I could add: Baboon Bandits, Bold as Brass!

That's funny!
LOL Later we had some lions visit the camp we were in - at night so I have no photos.

We could hear the lions roaring at dinner and after we got into the tent, apparently a pride of 25 lions came into the camp and were quite close to our tent, My granddaughter said she could hear them breathing and they were roaring quite loud. We couldn't see anything of course - just hear them. I would have liked to see them. They got Jeremiah to get the truck and chase them away, but they came back several . They wanted to spend the night on the warmer dirt and didn't want to be in the grass which would get dew and get their coats wet.

They had told us that if we had a problem, we should blow a whistle (provided) and my granddaughter slept with it in her hand. They found it under her mattress this morning.

The next night we had trouble with the battery operated tent lights. I told my granddaughter to go out and find someone and tell them, but she refused to leave the tent. She said she could hear the lions roaring and that I was too deaf to hear them. She did eventually stand at the entrance and wave the flashlight until someone came.

Good thing you had your granddaughter with you that night, Rosalie, or you could have ended in the belly of a lion!

I just realised what an utterly dull life I have been leading...

I could feel them brushing past the tent. But when lions hunt, they aren't making noise. So if they were talking to each other, they were just being social. I wasn't going out to get a picture, I am not that foolish, but I wasn't afraid that they would try to get in the tent. I took photo of e of the paw prints the next morning. Later that day we ...
came upon a male and female lion in a tree.

The male got up and came toward the female who told him 'not this morning' so he turned around and lay back down on the branch.

We saw some lions on the bank of the river. The lioness drank some water and then lay down as if she was exhausted.

I thought maybe she was sick or pregnant, but I guess she had just been running or maybe hunting and was tired.

She has a very big, round belly. I would say she's pregnant, hence the panting. She could also have had a big meal but I don't know if she would be panting like that then. I think it's typical of a female at the end of her pregnancy when the foetus has grown big.

Both are possible, big meal and high temp. or pregnant but I'd expect more swollen mammary glands end of term. (and I hope for the mum there are several foetuses;)).

These were others that i was thinking of submitting for fierce. An Australian Saltie crocodile but while he looks mean I missed a shot of him jumping up to catch a bird

and this one from Africa - but I didn't think it was a really good picture
