so Sammy is the gal who ive mentioned doesnt know much of anything about photography and while ive looked over her shoulder, a big YAY! for automation because the images at least look properly exposed.

Sydney, wanted to do an internship with the local hockey team last year. the team doesnt seem to care much about having control over their product because she just comes and goes as she wants. ive seen some of her images and again while properly exposed, lots of backsides, and kind of missed shots. NOT that im passing judgement. she's never asked me for any advice although i told her she could ask me anything about shooting hockey.

it seems that 'most' of these people who want to come in and do 'internships' just want to have free access to the games and to use the opportunity to pad their portfolios since they dont seem to ever submit anything to the team...

Sounds odd. I mean, if you want to be a photographer, then be a photographer. Learn your trade. So maybe you're right and she is just interested in getting in without having to pay for it.

So she shoots everything in AUTO? How can you be a photographer and not know the basics of it? With all the technology taking over, people seem to be getting stupider as they loose skills.

I shoot everything in auto, but otoh I don't call myself a photographer. I don't care what other people think of this - I tried not shooting in auto and decided it was too much trouble for what I wanted to do.

I didn't shoot in auto originally of course because there was no such thing. Mostly my selfies were done with mirrors. It has taken some time to figure out how to shoot a reasonable selfie with my cell phone.
