a new dslr selfie. this gal works with one of the gals in the local hockey team's cheer squad and is shooting a little bit of video and some still for her.

we were talking about photography and she said she didnt understand anything about the process of taking pictures (exposure triangle, ISO, aperture, shutter speeds, depth of field, compression, NOTHING!) yet her photos are acceptable for what she wants.

thats where the modern technology is stripping the skill (maybe wrong term?) out of photographer's hands.... i dont know. i work hard to make sure i get the best images i can (MOST OF THE TIME, some things dont need the extra work)...View attachment 4195

So she shoots everything in AUTO? How can you be a photographer and not know the basics of it? With all the technology taking over, people seem to be getting stupider as they loose skills.

yeah, i think so! she said she had some photography classes in college but they basically just handed them a camera (intro level with a kit lens, im sure) and told them to go out and shoot pictures...

i dont get it myself. same with people who pop a Gary Wong (Gary FONG?) diffuser thing on their speedlite, angle it up towards the SKY, and then take photos. i dont know how thats doing ANYTHING to add fill light or to illuminate a scene

Are you photographing your reflection in a glass door here? That's what it looks like to me. If so, then good job. I tried photographing myself in the mirror once and failed. I couldn't get the focus right.

One of my first attempts - I tried to take my reflection in a hand mirror in 1960
