Birds In Flight - Post Yours!

Lesser black-backed gull (not the same bird). Shot with the R5m2 and the RF 800/11. They were frame filling close, some didn't fit within the frame, so I lost wing tips and such. I kept a few shots, like these two.

Just one other of the Lesser black-backed gull with the RF 800/11. He was taking off down below in the dark and I caught him just above the water. I don't usually crop like this but @800mm it's hard to keep a bird in the centre, especially when this close, so I trimmed the lower half of the shot. The width is as it was, he fitted just inside the frame.

I thought you had a problem with birds in flight at 800mm? Not doing so bad now!

Actually that was with the R6, but on that camera the 800/11 had just a small focus area in the middle of the frame and at 800mm that made it that much harder to lock onto a bird in flight. But on the R5m2 and also the R6m2 the lens doesn't have that restriction any more, so the focus area is almost as large as the sensor itself. And with the limiter set to 20mtr BIF is now doable, even at close range. Although I have to say, I am surprised myself about how well it went.
