In the UK, the little grebe (Tachybaptus ruficollis) used to be known as the dabchick. The NZ bird is a different species and seems endangered. Jack can say more. Lovely shot, though. North Island, l guess?

And yet, all the different grebes look like grebes, don't they?

Thanks, Levina. I thought the toe thing might garner a little attention, ha! I wish I could get out early, that was taken at 5:34 pm, about an hour before sunset and it's just my editing that makes it appear like morning.

Beautiful shot, Jason. These swallows are so pretty but my guess is they can be somewhat of an exposure nightmare with their shining blue coat!

The sheen was never a problem for me, but I never shot many of them.

Of course my new R5m2 would have more definition in the feathers, but I think these are still very nice.
