I've got my laptop back so now it's grey and foggy again:cry:
(and they couldn’t find the fault, it turns on again but that means there's an intermittent hardware problem, probably waiting for the warranty to run out...)
Really, ah, that's bad. That's like a sword of Damocles waiting to come down.

It's pretty clear here, sunny. Cold. And my R5m2 came!!! Battery is charging. It's a different battery than the ones for the R6m2. It's a E6P whereas the ones for the R6m2 are LP-E6NH. I have to look up if these work in the new camera. Most likely yes, but probably not as well?

I'm going to purchase another E6P right away.

If the weather stays clear I might take the new camera out for a little spin around the park!

They should work, but with limited functionality. I have not tried them myself since I bought additional E6P's so did not have a need to try it yet. For me I think the limitations are doable (if i remember correctly what I read about it), as I would need it for rugby most likely. So as long as I get the FPS (in ES) and can fill the card (no necessity to transfer wireless) and not using pre-capture.

BTW: there are third party batteries available on the market as well. I have 4 from 2 different suppliers and both seem to work flawless. Apart from the financial part of 3rd party batteries, I prefer them over Canon as I can charge them on a large charger that can handle 4 at the time. I'm under the impression the original Canon batteries not always charge well on 3rd party chargers, leaving me with the Canon charger doing 1 at the time. I just prefer to charge 4 at a time.

Older Canon batteries work but some functions don't, pre-capture and some video stuff needs the new LP-E6P. Older 3th party batteries don't work at al.
I've bought 2 Canon extra. An other thing is some older 3th party chargers don't charge the new LP-E6P, I've got a double usb Jupio which doesn't work.

I have a ton of Neewer batteries for the R6 and the R6m2. And they all still charge to 100% where the Canon ones don't. They're at 95, 96%. So I have no problem buying 3d party batteries. I'll look into it. Battery is still charging. Sun is starting to go away a bit now, more clouds coming in. Almost 2ºclock. I might just shoot from my bedroom window after all today. Testing the camera on the gulls.

Besides, I have to set up the camera. Oh joy... :wtf: :panic:

I had Neewers and they were less than half the price of a Canon battery and they're better too. I'll look for 3d party options later.
Yeah, sun is going away. I'm staying in, will shoot some gulls from home later. Hopefully my Mac is updated enough to handle the new files.
Hopefully we'll have another clear, sunny day tomorrow.

Yeah, that's migrating behaviour, birds gathering in large groups. No doubt coming in from the south to breed here? It seems a bit early though, but what else could it be?
Migration is changing, see this article(in Dutch) https://nos.nl/artikel/2554550-wint...hoe-klimaatverandering-de-vogeltrek-verandert

I've also seen Spoonbills on 12 January, Lapwings in November and January.

I've got 2 Jupio and 1 Smallrig(with usb charge built in), they worked perfectly in the R5 but now unusable. I choose Canon for the LP-E6P, don't want to have the same problem next time.

Hard weather movement? Freezing land causes birds to move.

Oh, these are so great! And look at those numbers! I really am in the wrong place for bird photography. I've never seen so many lapwings flock together. What a sight.

Right. There's always a drawback to these things. I decided to buy a Canon too. I looked at a few others. Jan is using 3d party batteries, but I don't know the brand name and with batteries, I don't know... And Neewer has a battery that apparently replaces a whole swath of Canon batteries, for the R5m2, the R6m2, the R5. I don't know, I don't trust that: one battery to fit them all? So I took a deep breath and just bought the Canon from Cameranu. They charge a better price than some of the other shops € 116.

We had some below zero temps but I don't think it was that bad. But I haven't been out much and I'm up north and in a city. Patrick and Jan will know.
