We had a regular Hedgehog in our garden last year. They are nocturnal, but once it emerged before the light had quite gone and I managed to take this snap. I had to use a high ISO and a wide aperture, so there's no depth of field. Topaz Denoise helped a lot.

They're not native and isn't it so they are more dominant/aggressive and are more resistant to an infection which kills the red?

Basically yes. They transmit squirrel pox to which red squirrels are more susceptible.
 
Vervet Monkies in South Africa. I surprised the second one when I opened the door and found him outside. He dashed away and I juust managed to snap him before he disappeared. I'm amazed the shot is almost level.
And not just almost level, it's a good shot too. He's so nicely separated from the background. Very nice, Jack.
