#1 Rosalie
#2 Rob
#3 Jeff
I thought voting was particularly difficult this week because we had some truly wonderful entries. I loved Martin's image. I loved Jason's image. Just so well taken and so aesthetically pleasing. The same with Jan's image. Very clever that one. The problem was that I couldn't see the passing of time in the images. But it was painful putting the images aside.
There were only three images that I thought really showed the passing of time well: Rosalie's image, Rob's image and Jeff's. In the end I chose Rosalie's as my #1 because I love images of "then", of man-made structures in particular, things that were built by those that came before us. It's like reaching across time, connecting to that time. In a way. It's just a personal thing. And since I couldn't choose on any other ground, I followed my preference and chose Rosalie's image for first place.
Rob's image I thought was very clever. The two clocks, or rather the one, seen from different angles that seem to have the hands slightly differently positioned on the face of the clock and the bus running past it. I thought it was pretty brilliant. In the end i gave the nudge to Rosalie, but a terrific entry.
Jeff's image obviously also showed the theme well. It's funny because Rosalie's objections against the image ("he had other stuff in there") I very much liked because it showed that yes, time passes and we grow older but our passions often stay with us. Time may change how we look, but we stay the same inside. I liked that very much.
As for Levina's photo it had a false start from my side as I saw it on a monitor that was too bright. On that screen I saw some 'dark halos' around several of the sun/ moons so it looked like a sloppy composite. When I look at it on a proper screen, I do not see the halo effects. It is a nice composite of a nice natural phenomenon. But when I have the theme in mind, the phenomenon does not express "passing of time" to me. It is occuring for ages and repeating itself according to mathemetical/ physical precision and therefore I associate it more with continuity and repeating, rather than the passing of time. But I acknowledge it is very subjective and probably overthinking it too much
I don't do sloppy composites!

But it was a composite. Obviously.
I didn't want to use this image for the theme. Although I think it was pretty good for it. The fact that the earth passes between the sun and the moon, we can actually see time pass. Literally. After all we have divided time into years, months, weeks and days. The earth spins = 1 day. A full orbit around the sun = a year. The moon has its own lunar cycle, also indicating time. So yeah, I thought it fit.
However, it was not my first choice. My first choice was this one, also a composite. And it was perfect for the theme. The problem I had with it was that this is a composite of a work of art by somebody else. It isn't mine. I just photographed it. I don't know, it just didn't feel right to enter it.
