Mother with "Tony"

My husband is a cat person - mostly feral cats. We have had many cats as people drop animals off at Ryken HS run by the Xaverian Brothers - I think they confuse them with St. Francis. Some of these cats are female and pregnant

The first one was dropped off in 2011. She was short haired mostly white but with orange and black spots, and she was very friendly so maybe not completely feral. We called her "Ghost Kitty". She had 5 kittens - one was not quite right. She brought it to Bob and it died in his hands.

She had two long haired white cats with gold markings and two long haired cats - white with black markings. She taught them to stay away from the road but she would come inside with them when it was cold

We caught one of the white and black ones and gave him his shots and had him clipped and chipped (neutered and chipped)

He was a smart cat and would play fetch. We let him go outside but he managed to lose his collar with the rabies tags on it so he became an indoor cat. We called him Crunch

The other cats in the litter and the mother disappeared. Except for one with the opposite markings to Crunch. We couldn't catch him but we left food for him. We called him Crunch's brother.

In 2021 Crunch died, and Crunch's brother disappeared soon after.

Very beautiful cats

The next set of kittens arrived in 2014

Four of the five kittens - Orange Crush, Hidey Ho, Creamsicle, and Gravel Gertie (Gertie liked to roll around in the gravel driveway

IMG_0011.JPG

This was the fifth one -Cindy Block because she liked to climb on and sit on the cinder blocks on the porch

Hidey liked to hide.

The mother was a dark calico. We caught all of them and got them fixed and gave them their shots but didn't chip them. It was too expensive. Orange got his foot hurt in a fight and so we took him to the vet, and brought him inside. Creamsicle disappeared - he was very friendly and his mother didn't teach him to stay away from them the road and the kittens often went over to Ryken so maybe one of the boys took him home. The mother also disappeared and we brought the other four inside. Cindy Block disappeared and then we had four (including Crunch). Orange was very friendly and would come and sit in Bob's lap. But the two girls - Hidey and Gertie remained feral. Hidey would eventually come to be brushed, but we still can't touch Gertie 10 years later.

Sweet shots, Rosalie.

The most recent mother cat was dropped off in 2021 but she was so small and I guess young that she didn't have any kittens until the following year. When suddenly in June 2022, there were kittens down by the garage.

The mother and two of the kittens were white with black spots (I call it the Holstein type of markings). One was a grey tiger and one was black with white markings.

We were able to catch one of the white with black spots and have him neutered that fall. The kittens were bigger than the mom. Bob calls those four kittens - Team I

Then in January 2023, the other Holstein marked one got a hurt foot and we were able to catch him because he couldn't move as quickly and take him to the vet and get him fixed. I called him Limpy

This is the rest of Team I as we drive out of the driveway to the vet - Not Limpy, Grey Tiger and Black
IMG_6112.JPG

Limpy and Not Limpy both have black ears and black eyes. I can't tell them apart.

But very soon there was another litter of four kittens. Two black and two white with black spots. Bob called them Team Two.

We caught and got neutered the black one with the black nose and the grey tiger from Team One, and the two all black (one had a single tiny white spot on his chest) and two more white with black spots. One of them was pregnant so I think we got the mother of Team One and Team Two. But we didn't know which of the five cats that were white with black spots had been caught and which had not. I hope that the last one was a male (all the other kittens were males) and that there would be no more kittens. Because at this point we had three indoor cats and nine outdoor cats.

No Black Eyes - either the mother or the fourth kitten from Team Two

The two all black ones disappeared fairly quickly and so, I think did the mother. So now, Bob has three or four outdoor cats - the one with the black nose that's mostly black, the grey tiger and one or two white with black spots.
