The face just looks very modern, like a real life person, photographed today, hence my remark. Amazing.
Yeah, I can't remember the full story behind it, I only remembered it after someone else talking about reading a history book that mentioned foreigners being in the area way back.

Yeah. Trying out a different photo hosting site. Something that's accessible on mobile etc, hopefully from China when we travel, and not crazy expensive. Couldn't see a test area, so rather than pollute someone else's thread, thought I'd tack it on here. Where it's pretty much relevant 😃
Seems to work okay. What size does it display at for you out of interest?

Normal size. Looks good.

If an image is larger than 1600px it gets downsized by the forum software to 1600px on the long end. But this particular image of the building in the field is 1280px wide so you must have embedded it here at that size. :)

He he. I'm losing track of what I'm hosting and posting from where. I think that's from postimage? and that's one of the limitations of the free account. I've since tried out and paid for an account with imageshack, and I'm pretty sure you can choose the embed size there. I'll look later

Maybe a water slide? The sign seems to allude to a "lake of sea flowers" but I'm probably wrong. It's a place name, or the name of a park? it's nice to see places there that aren't cities.
You're right. It's a bit of a tourist area as there's an arch of flowering vines that goes for a couple of hundred metres. We were there too early in the season, it just looked like bare grape vines. I've got a photo of it, nothing special though. That's actually a tea house up on the hill to the left. Got a couple of pic's of the guard dogs looking after it :)

I've also got GPS coordinates of the general area somewhere. When I go wandering in strange places and I don't speak the language I take the odd screenshot of my phone compass app. Which displays the longitude and latitude. That way I can find my way back from pretty much anywhere, or at least look back later and see where I went. Google doesn't work in China so your Android phones with Google apps aren't much use as far as turn by turn navigation goes. Local apps work but I can't read Chinese, so I just go old school. Yeah, you can use a VPN but I can't be bothered, I actually quite enjoy being isolated from Facebook, Google etc. I just redirect my email to an outlook account which works over there, and that does the trick for me 🙂
