If You Could Photograph Just One Thing...

Really? That sounds so nice. From what I read they are tiny birds with an attitude! :D
I’ve hand one fly into my home. I held out my finger and he landed on my finger. They are very smart and very social. I’ve hand fed them. Once they know they are not on your menu, they become your friend. I’ve had them come to my window - I’d look up from my desk and they’d wait for me to come out and feed them.

One had me follow them to their nest and showed me their family - two baby hummers. I went back and got my camera. Pics of the mommy feeding her family. I framed the photos up in my home.

Humming birds are a lot of fun. And weightless. You can’t feel their weight at all, just the little claws holding on to your finger.

Sweet.

But I believe they can be very territorial around feeders, chasing away other hummingbirds.

If I could only shoot one thing, I'd probably give photography a miss. There's just too many interesting things to photograph. I'm guessing a bit of this comes from me not thinking of myself as a photographer, just an opportunistic happy snapper with way more camera than I need. For me, taking photographs is mostly just a random thing I do that I find great fun. My camera comes with me pretty much everywhere (and no, I'm not talking about those stinking, uncomfortable phone cameras) and I just shoot things that happen to catch my eye, that I find interesting. Out shopping with the Wife this afternoon, this happened to catch my eye. Yeah -I do shoot a lot of automotive subject matter, as that's something that I'm interested in :)

The other week when I was chasing up travel Visa's, it was this

Or just driving along and spotted this

And this

Even when I'm at some sort of vehicle show, & get chatting with someone interesting, I might shoot this. Being tied to a single subject would be just too restrictive for me

It seems that whatever catches your eye, you know how to photograph it! These are all great.

That's probably the case for most photographers, honestly. The basic premise of the thread is what's your absolute favorite thing to photograph, if you absolutely had to choose a favorite thing. Again, probably a tough question for a lot of photographers, but I thought it might be fun and interesting to see different folk's answers.

Heck, even for me, and I'm not a photographer it would be a toss-up between landscapes and wild animals. I lean wildlife on most days, but on any given day that might change to landscapes. One of these days I'll be able to splurge on a camera and lens and we'll find out, for sure, which one I prefer! 🤣

For me, I couldn't really choose between automotive, and travel photos. And strangely enough, I'm not all that keen on the actual travel bit lol. Not a fan of aircraft at all. I'm not afraid of them, I just think they're the most uncomfortable, and boring way to get anywhere. Only thing going for them is that they're fast.
