Jeff, I'm curious, why do you shoot with the 100-400 when you have the 100-500? Isn't the 100-500 the better lens?

No, I meant the RF 100-400mm. I noticed you shot the mallards above with it and I wondered why you shoot with it when you have the RF 100-500mm.sometimes I take it for the wider aperature, other times just because... I have been trying to talk my son into taking it but he likes his EF100-400L mk I So I will probably sell it however I still have the 90D and 7Dii and 5d classic all of which need the EF lenses
You know, I think you're right! I didn't check that, assuming it was a recent pic.Maybe he didn't have the 100-500 at that time?

I think it's a beautiful image, Levina. They pop against that bg. To me, it looks like a painting, with the ducks being painted on a white canvas with light blue used for the ripples.
I only read good things about the RF 100-400. I'm always tempted to buy it because it's inexpensive and lighter than the 100-500mm.I didn't buy the 100-500 until early 2024 this was in 2023 with the RF 100-400
HOWEVER I often take the RF 100-400 out due to the lighter weight and also for my shooting, social media and a 8 1/2 x 11 calendar every year it gives really great results, I would say the same as the EF 100-400Lii and virtually as good as the 100-500 for those uses. Pixel peeping you can see the difference but I think the RF100-400 is a hidden gem by Canon.
the big difference is the build quality, controls, and weather sealing, but it is a great lens. I use it a lot
