From last year. Shot in Waterland (countryside outside Amsterdam). I was on my way to shoot warblers when I saw this mother hen and her 4 surviving chicks. Those little ones are so vulnerable, such easy prey.

Easy prey for grey herons e.g. There were a whole bunch of them lined up, about 10-15 meter apart, eyeing the little ones. The mother hen took them out of the water and into the field (where I took the above shot).
