So they don't migrate to warmer regions for the winter? Your winters can still be severe, no?
There are an increasing number that either stay longer or all winter - the city is warmer, and there are plenty of people feeding them. The all year geese are the worst!

I think the coldest we have had in Copenhagen this winter (so far) is about minus 10 and not for long.

This lot have a colony on a lake in Frederiksberg, but in winter many move into the town ... only had my phone with me that day, but you can see they like the town library!

Minus 10 would be quite severe for us here, in the Netherlands. I remember from the past that a harsh winter can decimate bird populations.

Your picture is interesting. Herons are solitary living birds and don't usually gather like this. But if it's cold and there is a warm roof, I guess survival is more important.

Agreed, silly superstition seemed to be more prevalent back in the day. The Salem witch trials were famously ridiculous.
