Or a vulture, but I'm not sure which. Buzzard is an active predator, while vulture is primarily a scavenger.

I think this is old world nomenclature vs new world nomenclature.
What we call a buzzard (Buteo buteo) is a hawk in the US. And what the US calls a buzzard we call a vulture.

Something like that anyway. It's confusing. Like with Robins. The American robin is no robin at all, but a thrush.
