I don't recall ever seeing one before so thanks for sharing, Jack. The first thing that came to mind when looking at their patchy pattern is 'quilt.' :unsure:
What an extraordinary looking bird, Jason. Like Kirk I don't think I ever saw one before. He's beautiful and this is a great shot.
Thanks, both. This was one of a pair I found in what was then called Port Elizabeth in South Africa. They seemed to be tolerably common.
 
It was a glorious day today here in the kingdom (:lolz:), cold and sunny and no wind. So I went for a stroll in the park, something I hadn't done in quite a while. Not much to shoot. This magpie landed nearby on a branch and stayed there for a while, shaking himself.
