Weekend Task #39 - Hats, Helmets, Wigs and Head Coverings

I agree with Jan that voting was difficult so I did it this way - I picked Jan's photo first because that was what I had in mind when i set the challenge. Although I thought I might get a hockey photo instead of 'football'. (Or was it Rugby?)

I had to be really nitpicky to make any decision at all. I eliminated the smaller photos and the Halloween masks because they weren't ON the head but in front of the face.

I also did not understand inphoto's photo although the guy in the photo did have something on his head in addition to the twirling thing - he didn't caption it so I didn't have a hint as to what was going on.

That left me with Levina, Rob, StephenM and Stiga. I thought StephenM and Stiga were the photographically the best. I was tempted to put Stiga 2nd instead of third, but his hats weren't on a head. Rob had a great 'hat', but the background distracted me.

#1 Jan
#2 EdC
#3 Stiga
When I saw Jan's entry I laughed out loud. It's a great pic and the head covering (whatever that thing is  ) I thought was very funny. The moment he posted it I thought that that would most likely end up as my #1.

The others were more difficult but in the end I chose Ed's pic for the #2 position because it's more than just a head covering. It conveys a mood. It's a little sad or rather melancholic because the party is over and everybody went home and the funny hat has been discarded. I think it's a great shot.

I put Martin's shot third for the same reasons Jan selected it as his #1 choice: the variety of hats in the display.

But voting was as hard as it always is. I also loved Jeff's pic, but it was a funny pic and I already had Jan's pic in that category. When I vote I always try to pick different winners. So the 'funny' position was already taken. But I loved the shot. The same with Rosalie's Santa hat. Ed was my favourite of the headless hats. I also loved inphoto's image but I thought that the head covering was the bandana, not the object above the head they seem to be spinning. But it's a wonderful image for sure. Dave's, Rob's and Stephen's images were very good but we have to choose three. That's why voting is so hard.

My own image, I have no pics of head coverings, no pictures of people wearing hats. Well, I have, but not very good and not as subject. Browsing through my Lightroom catalogue I saw this one and decided to post it. But Jan's objections are absolutely valid.

My photo was rugby indeed ;) , where they used not to wear any head gear. Nowadays some players wear a soft padded hat called a 'scrum cap'. The rea bumpy headwear of one of the players. It is called a scrumcap since players wear it for scrumming, which in some positions mean that your head is in between other players. In the past, players taped their ears preventing them from folding when moving against other players. Nowadays you see both taped ears and players wearing a scrumcap. Some believe the scrumcap also helps preventing concussions, but it is doubtful they really do.

When I saw the theme, the particular match this photo was taken came into mind. No because of the scrumcap, but because of the referee with his orange shirt and yellow rain hat in between mud covered rugby players. I picked this photo since it showed to types of headwear. The referee has a hearing condition and wears hearing aids, which he needed to protect in from the rain, hence the rather big yellow hat .

Thank you for your votes and the second place!
I too liked the hat they had in the rugby game!
All the entries were very good, so I chose LT daughter's hat and Stephen's gentleman.
I too don't know what the dancers were spinning, but they all had their heads covered with scarves.
