Weekend Task #20 - Abstracts

Sorry for my absence, everybody. It was unexpected. Thanks Rosalie and Jason for moving things along!!

My votes:

#1 Rosalie
#2 Rob
#3 Jason

It is noon GMT and the voting window is now closed.

I'll be back shortly with the results.

I've tallied the votes and the results are as follows:

Jason and Rob are tied with 10 points each. This means that I, as host, get to decide who wins. I don't want to choose between the two, so I looked at who has the most #1 votes. Well, both have one #1 vote. On to the #2 votes then and there Rob has 3 #2 votes where Jason has 2 #2 votes and so the winner, based on these numbers is Rob.

Congratulations Rob. And also congratulations Jason.

Results weren't that far apart this week. Rosalie and Terry were tied with 6 points. The rest of us ended just below that at 5 and 3 points.

Again, congrats to the winner(s) and thank you all for playing!

Rob, it's all yours.

In case you would like to know. I did my abstract by using four pictures I took when I was experimenting with cut glass and prisms making rainbows. I overlaid four pictures from that set. I used two of these prisims to give some texture

and this one using a cut glass bowl

I was specifically aiming for an abstract where you couldn't tell what it was.

As I explained in the description in my OP, for me an abstract is truly abstract when it has no connection to the real world. It is something that is unrecognisable. There were only 4 such entries that qualified: Rosalie's, Rob's and Jason's images. And my own. I simply liked Rosalie's best because of the shapes and colours, but all three were good abstracts.

All the other images were not abstracts in my definition of it: rain on a window or detail of a bridge are not abstracts. Ed's entry was clever and made me chuckle but it was not what I had in mind.

As to my own image, it was a champagne glass against an orange cloth. Here's the glass:

I have sent a DM to Rob, asking him to start a new competition.

Sorry! Busy day; away from my desk most of it. Also, didn't expect to win - thanks folks and Levina (and thanks for the PM to remind me)!
Back in a moment with a new WET.

Ed's divergent interpretation stole my #1, and academic abstracts are sometimes quite abstract, too (not necessarily yours, Ed :D). But I liked all the competitors' pics. Really liked Levina's, too.

Good to see you, Rob. Looking forward to the next challenge!
