Weekend task #16 - Weather

I think the results are clear
Jan 18 - far ahead of anyone else by any count
Martin and Levina tied at 7
Me 6
Jeff 4

I have never been able to catch any lightening in a picture so of course I had to put that photo first. I have been trying to get a photo of rain or snow falling for some time, and have had some success with a really hard rain, but my snow photo is nowhere near as good as Levina's.
My photo of the lightning was taken during a holiday in Switzerland from an address I stayed on a regular basis (the year the photo was taken, it was the 40th year in a row my parents went to that location). I always had the idea to photograph some lightening, but in the Netherlands there aren't that many occasions and not really good spots in my neighborhood. In the mountains you can often see it coming and due to the mountains and valleys it often is sort of predictable where it will be.
Plus the holiday home has a balcony and if the wind is in the proper direction, you have some shielding so can sit relatively calm and safe while taking the photos. That really helped in getting this one. The other thing that helped is that it was quite dark both due to the heavy weather and it being in the evening. That allowed a long shutter speed, so increasing the chance to catch some lightening.

It was however still a bit frustrating when the shutter just closed again and then a lightening bulb appeared. But having patience and taking lots of photos in the end paid off. I'm pretty sure that with analog film I would not have been able to achieve this one.

Congratulations to Jan and the other winners!

I had a hard time deciding which photo to enter as I have quite a number of bad weather shots, but this particular snow pic is still one of my favourites.

Thanks to all that participated and voted, and thanks for the honor to 'win' this weeks challenge:yay:. I took my responsibility and just started the new WET ;) .

To me, there wasn't much between this week's submissions. I'll try to explain it, but it is bit far fetched probably.

I put Martin (Stiga) first as it was a clearly rainy photo from a perspective that I usually do not see for photos of rain, but it clearly expresses it and hence did most justice to the theme. I picked Rosalie's (Greatgrandma) photo second. To me it was the most photogenic of the photos, but due to it being more esthetic the focus on the theme was conveyed less strongly. And I ranked Levina's photo as third, due to the fact it was actually snowing in the photo which for me better adhered to the theme than Jeff's photo.
Thank you

1. Jan
2. Martin
3. Jeff
Okay, so I put Jan's pic in first position because it's too good not to.
I put Martin's pic in second position because he in the car and actually IN the bad weather himself and it's the only pic that shows that. So I thought that was great.
Jeff's pic shows very nicely how weather can have a great, direct impact on our daily lives.

But it was difficult though because I also like Rosalie's fog picture a lot. But you have to choose and I chose as I did. But I would definitely give Rosalie HM here.

It's hard to photograph fog because it kind of isn't there. How can you tell if it isn't just distance?

I've done rain a lot including winter rain and tropical rain
