Well, why not? Music is international. The song is a country song and that's an American music style, so "miles" and "mile markers" make sense. And besides, the mile is British in origin and was later adopted by the US.

And then there is Ilse de Lange (the singer). She co-wrote the song and she's a country and pop rock singer-songwriter who worked in the US, recorded an album in Nashville.

My first thought was that in a song “miles” sounds a lot better than “kilometers”.
