boats during 'boat night' the friday night before the annual (since 1923) Port Huron to Mackinac race.

it goes up through Lake Huron. there are two courses that can be sailed, one longer for the bigger boats. there have been as many as 300+ boats race over the years but things have slowed down a bit in recent times. these two sailboats LOOK to be in the 12 meter class but I dont remember.

Gordon Lightfoot used to race his boat and Bob Seger had one he raced a couple of years too.

the bigger faster boats have in the past done the race in about 24 hours but depending on weather and winds, some of the smaller craft take 3-5 days.

there's a BIG party on Mackinac Island (in the straits between Lake Huron and Michigan) and here in Port Huron there used to be estimates of 100,000 people just down by the river the couple of nights before to see the boats, to hang out at the carnival food trucks, drink and cause havoc...

Retired America Cup racers. They are like old horses at petting zoos, giving rides to tourists.
