  1. No
Is it worth buying a Canon FD lens? I know it can be easily adapted to the Canon R mount, but not sure it's worth it.

I ask because there is a shop here that has a Canon FD 200mm f/2.8 lens for € 200. And I'm tempted to buy it, just to play with it.

Should I or should I not?

200 euros is expensive too..
I was just looking at prices on eBay and some go for very much less than 200 euro. So I'm not getting this one. I will instead look for a FD 50/1.4 or some such lens. I think that would be a better choice. Although I have a feeling they won't come cheap.

Can’t speak to pricing, but that sounds like a great lens.
Just curious though, will you have aperture control with the adapter you mentioned? I don’t with my adapter, lenses are always wide open, you have to control exposure with shutter speed and ISO.

i carried one of these in my bag as a photojournalist for Gannett (well the local paper owned by them), my college newspaper, and then in the Air Force as a photographer. on par with the Nikkor 180 f2.8

i just did a quick startpage search (more secure without the spying of the G branded search engine) and theyre running about $100 US. or about 170 euro so maybe that's not too far out of range for one. i liked it. not sure how id like to use any of my FD lenses on digital though. im kind of spoiled having nothing to fiddle with to get a good shot

This thread went completely off my radar!

I never had FD lenses but I assume aperture can be adjusted manually, on the lens itself, like with legacy lenses that I have?

100 USD would be about 85 Euro, so a lot less than 200 euro. After inphoto said 200 euro was too expensive I looked around a bit and he's right. So I'm not getting it. Cool though that you had it in your bag at one time!

I did bid on a Jupiter 8 50mm f/2 M39 lens on eBay but lost it to someone else.

i did the currency conversion backwards. oops!

i still have the lens, its on the shelf next to my AE-1 and F-1 new. and my other FD lenses (24mm, 35mm both f2, 50mm and 85mm both f1.8) i really DO want to get those canons back out on the street but i run out of things to shoot. ive still got 4x5 film in my graflex holders to develop from last may and i have 5 other rolls of film from last summer and fall to develop. hard to get motivated to do them though

Levina, I think it can be done if you have the correct adapter. I don’t have that adapter though. I found this on YouTube, maybe it will help:

Have you thought of getting an adapter, use it on your R6m2? Or even on the 5D4?

Interesting. Thanks for that Terry!

Better get the 50mm f2 m39 mount, it's small, has a unique bokeh and you will miss less unfocused photos than the tele fd lens.
You mean the Jupiter? It’s probably the better choice for me. It would be a lens that I would actually use, which, to be honest, I’m not sure would be the case with the fd 200.
