I've been looking for the lens on eBay. I think I want the Contax/Kiev version, right, M42? I still have an adapter for that.

Contac/Kiev won't fit. You must have the M39 version with the M39 to mirrorless adapter, M or RF for Canon.

It is a rangefinder lens in M39 / Leica Thread Mount and can adapted only to mirrorless bodies.
For M42 you can look for a Fujinon 55mm, Meyer Domiplan 50nm f2.8, E.Ludwig Meritar 50mm f2.8 and of course the famous Trioplan 100mm or the Trioplan 50mm in Exa mount. TTartisan makes a modern version of the Trioplan for RF mount.
