No but during the so called Hunger Winter here in the Netherlands (1944-1945, the last WWII Winter where the south of the country had been liberated but the north was not and the Nazi's cut off all supplies to it so people were literally starving) people actually ate flowers, like tulips. I can't imagine what that must have been like.
