Probably not. Bird beaks are made of keratin, the same stuff as our fingernails. Then again, if our fingernails were proportionately as large, maybe we'd notice a difference! These are great. I hope that beak isn’t as heavy as it looks!
What a striking looking bird. And a great image!Collared Kingfisher

Such a different looking kingfisher. Also very handsome. And you got one in flight! To me that is amazing.
I love Belted Kingfishers!
According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingfisher there are 118Five species of Kingfisher already in this thread. How many different kinds of kingfishers are there?!![]()
Me neither! Common Kingfisher requires careful planning, lots of patience and, preferably, a hide. They're very shy things.I've not even managed to take a decent shot of the one type we have here.

I doubt it, having seen some of your other work.I've not even managed to take a decent shot of the one type we have here.
But but but, what about the kingfishers you posted in this thread? Aren't you a bit hard on yourself maybe?Me neither! Common Kingfisher requires careful planning, lots of patience and, preferably, a hide. They're very shy things.
The ones I've posted so far are all rather larger birds that weren't quite so shy. I ought to add that all four of my photos above are somewhat cropped and the first two were run through Topaz Gigapixel (which I suppose is a bit of a cheat - but it's there to be used). But but but, what about the kingfishers you posted in this thread? I've seldom seen one and only from a great distance so I'm afraid it's true but thanks anyway.

Although I don't doubt that they're shy birds.
Indeed so. The first three were shot in Singapore and the next two in South Africa.Jack was talking about shots of the common kingfisher, only one we have in Europe. The ones he posted must have been taken elsewhere.
I'd be delighted with those! These are the best I've managed, significant crops. Not good enough for me, only showing as example.
