There are so many mega-threads now, "POST YOUR...", with ever-finer subject definitions, it is becoming kind of crazy and confusing!!

Maybe people want their names immortalized as thread starters.

There is a place for smaller threads. And this is one. These are cardinals photographed about a year ago at Lamar, Texas.

Gorgeous pics, Ed. Simply beautiful.

As to the POST YOUR threads, I'm leaving them be. I tried to make a change and ended up switching it all back again... I figure if people don't like them, they won't post in them and they will go off the radar. And if that doesn't happen then people like them and they serve a purpose.

Since I have started most of them in the bird forum this comment is obviously aimed at me. I don't come here for the sake of reading snide remarks like this. It seems to me that If anyone is seeking to have their names immortalised it's those who post a new thread every time they post a photo, but I haven't criticised you for doing that.

LOL, I had no idea you were the culprit.

But I will accept your self-blame.

I made no snide remark, but you did.

Whether I was the main culprit or anyone else is actually irrelevant. What was any starter of such threads to make of your remark? Of course it was snide.

It was an observation. When FoP got started a bit over a year ago, admin took steps to allow POTN thread starters to start the same threads in FoP. There was definitely status associated with being a mega thread starter.

Thread starters become boss of their threads. At least the practice at POTN was that they had say over whether posts in their threads were off topic.

No question in my mind that there is cachet associated with being a mega thread starter, and there is nothing wrong with saying that.

But I wasn't accusing you of anything. I really wasn't paying attention to the names.

Let's not fight about this, okay? I'm sure nobody wanted to insult or hurt anyone and if it was done, it was done unintentionally. Best to shake hands and let go.

Goodness. I wasn't aware of that, but I'm happy to take your word for it. I can't even begin to relate to that. The only reason I started the threads I did (and I imagine eveyone else here would say the same) was to help get this new forum off the ground and as active as possible. I certainly don't think of myself as owning anything. In fact, I'd much rather everyone else contributed and posted me into oblivion. I'm posting proportionately too much at the moment, but I think it's more important that the forum is seen to be active if it is to be a success.

Yeah, posting is good.

There are lots of mega thread starters, and I'm one of them. So it's OK. I don't have an issue with anybody doing this. But the way it is trending, it seems easier to start a new thread when posting something than to search the forum for a serial thread that fits.

Yep, it's true, for some people at least it was, for others not at all. But we did have to keep an eye on who started which thread and give the owners of threads on POTN ownership of those threads on the new forum too.

Thread starters do have something to say about their thread and if something is off-topic or not. It is their thread after all. They can be quite bossy.
