Day 7​

After breakfast at the motel, we drove to Mesa Verde
Cortez to Mesa Verde - 10 miles

We visited Spuce Tree House with its iconic T shaped doors on a ranger led tour.

Hiking to the site. For this tour all children have to be capable of climbing ladders. D was 5 and BB was 3

Ranger talk - he explained how the original inhabitants cut hand and foot holds into the rock and spaced them so that if you started on the wrong foot, you would get to the top with no place to step. It was made that way on purpose to keep invaders out.

When I looked at some of these photos I was upset to see that we were walking on top of the excavations - which I would not think was allowed. But my mother was doing it too, and I didn't see any signs prohibiting it - then or now.
